The compliance board
Every filing deadline across your firm in one place, with the four states a deadline can be in.
The compliance board is every filing deadline your firm is responsible for, across every client, in one list.
It exists so that "did we file the 941 for the Hendersons" is a question with an answer rather than a search through four people's memories.
Where to find it
The four states
Open — due, not yet dealt with.
Filed — done, with a Filed on date recorded.
Extended — the due date moved, with the original date retained so you can still see what it was.
N/A — doesn't apply to this client this period. Marking N/A requires a reason, which is deliberate: a deadline dismissed without explanation is indistinguishable next year from one dismissed by mistake.
Overdue is shown against Open deadlines rather than being a separate state.
The counters
Four numbers across the top:
- Overdue
- Next 14 days
- This quarter
- Filed YTD
Overdue is the only one that matters day to day. If it isn't zero, everything else is secondary. Next 14 days is your working horizon during a filing week.
Filtering
Filter by Client and by Form, and by horizon — Next 90 days or This year.
Filtering to a single form code across all clients is the useful move at a filing deadline. One list, every client who owes that form, worked top to bottom.
Working a deadline
File ✓ marks it filed. Unfile reverses that if it was premature.
Extend… sets a New due date. The original is kept.
Mark N/A… needs a Reason (required).
Add note attaches context without changing the state — useful for waiting on client K-1 where the deadline is real and the blocker isn't yours.
Link to a task connects the deadline to the work that satisfies it, so the deadline and the job aren't tracked in two places by two people.
Deadlines on your calendar
Compliance deadlines appear on the calendar as a layer, on by default. That's the point of having them in the system — filing dates and meetings on the same grid, rather than deadlines living somewhere you have to remember to check.
Automations
Deadlines can trigger automations — Deadline approaching and Deadline overdue are both available as events.
An overdue deadline notifying a partner automatically is a better control than anyone's intention to check the board every morning.
Notes and limits
- Filing marks your record, not the actual filing. It doesn't submit anything to an agency.
- Extending keeps the original due date visible.
- A deadline linked to a task doesn't close when the task does — filing is a separate act.
- Compliance is permission-gated.
