Why can't I see it?
A tab, a client, a task, or a page is missing — the usual causes, in the order worth checking.
Something you expect to be there isn't. Almost always it's one of five things, and they're worth checking in this order.
1. Permissions
A page or tab you lack permission for doesn't appear at all. It isn't greyed out and there's no message explaining it — it simply isn't in the list.
That's why two people can open the same client and see a different set of tabs. Credentials, Comp Studies, and Health each sit behind their own permission, and so do parts of Documents and Billing.
Check first: ask someone with Firm settings to look at that person's role and permissions. This is the answer more often than everything else combined.
2. A filter you forgot
Filters stack, and they persist while you're on the page.
A task list showing nothing usually has three filters applied from twenty minutes ago. Clear them and see whether the thing reappears.
The same applies to a saved view — a view is a stored filter, so a view that "stopped showing" something usually means the thing changed in a way that no longer matches.
3. It moved out of the view you're looking at
Task lists default to active work. Moving a task to a status whose role is Complete closes it out, and it fades and drops from the active list.
The task isn't gone. Switch to a view that includes completed work.
This catches people whose status is named something like Delivered — the name is theirs, the role is Complete, and the role is what the list acts on.
4. Office scoping
Where your firm has offices, work and people carry one. Someone assigned to a different office may not see work you expect them to.
Check the office on the record and on the person before assuming anything is wrong.
5. You're looking at the wrong client or period
Two years of the same annual job look nearly identical in a list. Check the Period on the task, not just the title.
Similarly, a client that seems missing may be inactive rather than deleted.
Specific cases
A client can't see something in their portal. Check the status's client-facing settings — a status can be hidden from the client entirely. Also check that the document or request was actually shared with them.
Search returns nothing. Check whether an area filter is applied. Search also respects permissions, so an empty result can mean a permission boundary rather than an absent record.
A tag isn't in the picker. Archived tags are retired deliberately. Restore it in tag settings if it's still needed.
When it really is missing
If permissions, filters, views, office, and period all check out, the record may genuinely have been deleted.
Deleted documents go to Trash and are recoverable. For everything else, the audit log records what happened and who did it, which turns "it disappeared" into an answerable question.
