Find and filter clients

The client list is the main way into everything else. It's built to stay usable at fifty clients and at two thousand.

Where to find it

Search

The search box matches on name or email. It searches as you type — there's no button to press.

Email matching covers the taxpayer email on the record, which is useful when a client emails you from an address you don't recognise and you need to work out who they are.

For jumping straight to a client from anywhere in the app, the global search is faster than coming back to this page.

Filters

Click the filter control to add one. Filters stack — each one you add narrows the list further, and each appears as a removable chip so you can see exactly what's applied.

Three filters are always available:

• Entity type — pick one or several. The chip reads Entity: LLC, S-Corp.
• State — filters on the client's state.
• Group — shows only clients belonging to a particular group.

Filtering on your own custom fields

Every custom field your firm has defined is also available as a filter, and the options adapt to the field's type:

• Choice fields — pick a value.
• Date fields — filter On or after or On or before a date.
• Number fields — filter At least (min) or At most (max).
• Text fields — filter by text the field contains.

This is where the list earns its keep. A filter like entity type is S-Corp, and the custom field "Payroll provider" contains Gusto is the kind of question that otherwise means exporting to a spreadsheet.

Notes and limits

• Filters apply to the list you're looking at; they aren't saved to your account. Reloading clears them.
• Search and filters combine — searching within a filtered list narrows further rather than starting over.
• Clients you don't have access to never appear, filtered or not. An empty result may mean a permission boundary rather than no matches.
